Steube Recognizes Dedicated Public Servants in Sarasota County with FL-17 MVP Awards
VENICE, FLORIDA—Today, Congressman Greg Steube (R-Fla.) recognized two dedicated public servants in Sarasota County with the FL-17 MVP Award. Atwater Elementary School teacher Lisa Fisher, and Major Paul Richardson of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Department, were honored at the Sarasota County Commission meeting.
“We are thrilled to begin this award that recognizes the great public servants of Florida’s 17th district who go above and beyond on behalf of our community,” said Congressman Steube following the meeting.
Congressman Steube solicited nominations for FL-17 MVP Award recipients from community leaders throughout the 17th Congressional District. The award will recognize Teachers, Civil Servants, Law Enforcement Officers, First Responders, and Veterans throughout the district’s nine counties.
“Lisa Fisher is the Reading Recovery Teacher Leader for Sarasota County Schools—working with the most at-risk readers and training other teachers to help these students,” explained Steube. “Lisa is respected and admired by her colleagues and district leaders who know the impact she has made in Sarasota County Schools—including leading the district to exceed national averages for successful outcomes in Reading Recovery each year. Lisa is a dedicated educator who is paving the way for future generations of Sarasota County residents.”
“Deputy Sheriff for the Sarasota County Marine Unit, Mike Watson, is a 20-year veteran of the Sarasota County Sherriff’s Office, bringing extensive knowledge of marine law enforcement and providing a safe environment for everyone to enjoy our waters,” continued Steube. “Deputy Watson is also the coordinator for the annual Sheriff’s Activity League Youth Fishing Tournament. This event pairs first responders with local youth, providing opportunities for positive interaction and mentorship. Deputy Watson has played a large part in the event’s immense growth over his nine years of leadership, positively impacting the lives of our youth.”
Steube concluded by saying, “Individuals like Lisa Fisher and Mike Watson are what make our community special, and I hope others will follow their example of dedicated service.”
Steube will be awarding additional FL-17 MVP Awards throughout the district in the coming months.
