“We are discouraged!” 4 US lawmakers tell FEMA to return insurance discount

FOX 4 — Sen. Rick Scott and other politicians are urging FEMA to review its decision to end a 25% discount on flood insurance.

The county announced late last week that FEMA chose to eliminate the discount for unincorporated Lee County residents, along with residents of several cities and towns in the county.

Hurricane relief bill sponsored by Congressman Steube heads to the Senate

10 TAMPA BAY NEWS — A bill to expand the child tax credit and give tax breaks to some businesses is on its way to the Senate. The U.S. House approved the $78 billion package Wednesday, which includes tax relief for those impacted by natural disasters like Hurricane Ian.

Steube bill for hurricane relief advances

YOUR SUN — U.S. Rep. Greg Steube has added legislation to a bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives to assist with Hurricane Ian recovery, along with help from other recent disasters.
On Wednesday, the House passed the bipartisan Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act. Inside it was The Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act.

Steube Legislation to Provide Disaster Tax Relief Advances Out of Ways and Means Committee

WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) today announced his legislation, H.R. 5863,The Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act, advanced out of the House Committee on Ways and Means. The bill passed out of committee unanimously 38-0. This bill extends rules for the treatment of certain disaster-related personal casualty losses and provides tax relief for losses due to federally declared disasters.

EDITORIAL: Steube’s bill a life line for mobile home owners

SUN PORT CHARLOTTE — The aftermath of Hurricane Ian and the ensuing cleanup is something that will never be forgotten by anyone who lived in Southwest Florida — especially Lee, Charlotte. DeSoto and southern Sarasota counties. But, while most homeowners were able to pile their debris by the curb and, sooner or later, have it picked up by a hauler paid for by FEMA and the county, those who lived in mobile home parks found themselves in a jam. Because of FEMA rules, their was no program to pay for debris pick-up in mobile home parks.
