Steube Honors Fallen FWS Officer Keen in Renaming Ceremony of the Moore Haven Lock Dam
MOORE HAVEN, FLA.—U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) today attended the renaming ceremony of the Moore Lock Haven Dam after fallen Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) Officer Julian Keen, Jr.
“Officer Julian Keen Jr. embodied the meaning of public service and courage of our law enforcement officers in every aspect. Officers like him remind us of the courage and dedication of all of our brothers in blue who risk their lives to protect others,” Steube said. “I’m honored to join Col. Andrew Kelly and Rep. Diaz-Balart as we recognize his incredible sacrifice by renaming the Moore Haven Lock and Dam in his honor.”
Officer Keen was shot and killed in LaBelle, Florida, after attempting to stop a hit-and-run suspect while off-duty. Officer Keen served over six years with FWC and was highly respected in his community. The Moore Haven Lock and Dam will now be called the “Julian Keen, Jr. Lock and Dam” in his memory.
Steube offered a provision to rename the Moore Haven Lock and Dam after Officer Keen in last year’s Water Resources and Development Act (WRDA). Steube also sent a letter along with U.S. Representative Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure requesting this language to be included in the bill’s final version.
