Steube Commemorates the Twentieth Anniversary of September 11th
SARASOTA, FLA. — U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) today gave remarks at the Sarasota National Cemetery to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks on our nation.
“Twenty years ago, thousands of innocent lives were lost due to radical Islamic terrorism. This anniversary is especially significant as we still have many Americans who are fighting terrorism abroad,” Steube said. “As we pay our respects to the sacrifices of the fallen, let us never forget those they left behind who are still suffering the pain of loss from this tragic day.”
Hundreds of people gathered at the Patriot Plaza in the Sarasota National Cemetery to honor the lost heroes from September 11th and recognize survivors who are still with us today.
Participating in the event with Steube was Most Rev. Frank J. Dewane, bishop of the Diocese of Venice, the Rt. Rev. Dabney T. Smith, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Florida, NAACP President Trevor Harvey, Sarasota Sheriff Kurt Hoffman, as well as other local public officials.
Steube also presented distinguished guests with special commemorative challenge coins. Recipients of the coins included: first responders, veterans, active-duty military, Sarasota Elk Lodges, and 9/11 survivors in attendance.
The September 11th attacks inspired Steube to enlist in the United States Army. Steube served in Iraq with the 25th Infantry Division in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom as an Airborne Infantry Officer and a JAG Corps Officer.
