Steube Recognizes North Port Artist and Veteran Sgt Phillip Moore as November FL-17 MVP
NORTH PORT, FLA.— U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) today recognized local North Port artist and Army Veteran, Sgt Phillip Moore, as the November FL-17 MVP.
“Sgt Moore is a shining example of dedication, patriotism, and service and represents the best that our district has to offer,” Steube said. “He has used his unique talent to not only help manage his own PTSD, but to help his community by showing his art as a form of rehabilitation for fellow veterans.”
Sgt Moore served 8 years in the 1st Cavalry Division with the United States Army and later did 3 combat deployments in Iraq from 2004-2010 before leaving the military. He moved to North Port in 2014, and is now a prized local artist, having created the “Art of War,” an 18-piece collection that is on display at the North Port Art Center. Sgt Moore’s art is influenced by his colorblindness. His vision physically shakes when looking at certain colors next to each other, a phenomenon called “Color Vibration.”
Proceeds from paintings sold from his “The Art of War” collection will go to the Sgt Phillip S. Moore Veteran’s Art Scholarship, which will offer veterans the opportunity to attend classes at the North Port Art Center free of charge.
Steube presented Sgt Moore with a certificate and flag flown over the U.S. Capitol in his honor.
Each month, Steube and his team recognize an MVP from the 17th Congressional District who has made outstanding and unique contributions to the community. The purpose of this award is to recognize the unsung heroes across the District as they display extraordinary dedication to making a difference. MVPs are presented with a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol to thank them for their work and are publicly recognized in Steube’s weekly newsletter.
