Steube Dismisses Democrats’ Reaction to Trump Ruling, ‘Typical Fearmongering’
THE FLORIDIAN — President Biden gave an address responding to the Supreme Court’s ruling that former President Donald Trump was partially immune from prosecution, saying the decision “undermines the rule of law.” Representative Greg Steube (R-FL) dismissed the reaction as “fearmongering” in a recent appearance on Fox News, noting the irony of Biden, whom Republicans accuse of weaponizing the court system against Trump, making such a statement.
“It is fascinating that Biden gets up there for four minutes and criticizes the Court and completely changes the ruling,” said Rep. Steube.
“It is fearmongering by the Democrats. It is your typical ploy to try to make it all about Trump taking over and fearmongering the American people, and the American people are smarter than that. You have seen Trump’s poll numbers increase dramatically after each one of these indictments, and it is because the American people see that Joe Biden has weaponized the court system and the [Department of Justice] to go after his political opponent. And finally, the Supreme Court has had a case that they have been able to reset the pendulum back to the law,” the Florida Congressman added.
Host Brian Kilmeade further noted that the immunity ruling only applied to actions within the President’s expressed powers and in an official capacity and thus could still be prosecuted for actions beyond them.
Rep. Steube replied that on January 6th, 2021, the crux of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s case, then-President Trump “told people to peacefully and patriotically let their voices be heard, which is clearly within the confines of his responsibility as President of the United States.”
Moreover, Steube cited Justice Clarence Thomas’s opinion, which suggested Smith’s appointment was unconstitutional because he was not authorized by Congress, which Steube believed should be a point of focus for House Republicans.
Kilmeade then shared an X (formerly Twitter) post by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who pledged to draft articles of impeachment against the Supreme Court for making the immunity ruling, which Steube said was “not going to happen.”
“A Supreme Court justice has never been removed in the history of this country because then it takes two-thirds of the Senate to remove them. So again, they are weaponizing the justice system, going after the court because they do not agree with them,” agreeing with Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) in pointing out the irony of Democrats wanting to pack the court with justices who agree with them.
