OSPREY, Fla. — U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) announced the winner of the 2024 Congressional App Challenge for the 17th Congressional District of Florida. Citrus AI, created by Rohan Dash, an 11th-grade student at Pine View School, earned first place in this year’s competition.

“The FL-17 Congressional App Challenge showcased remarkable talent, with students addressing real-world challenges through innovation and creativity,” said Rep. Steube. “Rohan Dash’s Citrus AI app stands out as a meaningful solution to support one of Florida’s most important industries. I applaud all participants for their impressive work and look forward to seeing the great achievements they’ll bring to the tech world.”

Citrus AI is an app designed to support Florida’s vital citrus industry by analyzing crop health, predicting threats, and optimizing resource usage.

The competition also featured impressive entries from second and third place winners. Destiny Rose Cavite, a 9th grader at Booker Middle School, earned second place with her Volunteer Service app, and Ben Brunckhorst, a 7th grader at The Out-of-Door Academy, took third place with his Goose Tail app.

Every year the Congressional App Challenge encourages students to create and submit their original apps for a chance to win the Congressional App Challenge (CAC). Each challenge is district-specific. Each winning app will be put on display in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year and winning teams are invited to the #HouseofCode event in Washington DC. Winners can also apply for the ARTS Act Copyright Waiver to have their registration fees waived if they elect to copyright their creation. Learn more about the Congressional App Challenge here.
