STEUBE: Democrats’ Dangerous Legislation Incentivizes Increases in Illegal Border Crossings

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) today voted against H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act, which fuels the crisis at our southern border by granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants.

“There is a crisis at our border and this dangerous legislation only serves to incentivize more illegal crossings by granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants,” Steube said. “With Border Patrol encountering an average of 565 unaccompanied children a day, and some migrant facilities operating at over 729% capacity, we cannot afford misguided policies that fan the flames of the blazing disaster at the southern border.”

Over 100,000 migrants attempted to cross the southern border in February alone. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently reported that they encounter an average of 565 unaccompanied migrant children per day. Consequently, one migrant facility in Texas is now operating at 729% capacity. This drastic increase in illegal immigration follows a series of executive orders from President Biden, which halted the border wall’s construction, placed a 100-day pause on deportations, ended common sense asylum laws, and more.

Steube reintroduced several pieces of legislation this Congress to make reforms to our immigration policies while protecting American interests and security. Among them is the Illegal Alien NICS Alert Act, which directs the national instant criminal background check system to notify U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and relevant state and local law enforcement agencies when the system indicates that a prospective firearm transferee is illegally or unlawfully in the United States.

Steube also reintroduced the Moving H-2A to United States Department of Agriculture Act, which moves the administration of H-2A temporary agricultural workers from the Department of Labor to the Department of Agriculture. This legislation would streamline the H-2A process and provide agricultural producers with easier access to foreign temporary laborers.
