Steube Paycheck Protection Program 501(c)(6) Inclusion Initiatives in GOP Discharge Petition
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, U.S. Representative Herrera Beutler (R-Wash.) filed a discharge petition on H.Res. 1116, the rule providing for consideration of HR. 8265, the Paycheck Protection Program Extension Act. Within this legislation is language to expand Paycheck Protection Program eligibility to include 501(c)(6) organizations.
U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) previously pushed for this with his original cosponsorship of H.R. 6697, the Local Chamber and Tourism Protection Act in May. Steube also sent a letter to U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), commending him on his proposal to provide relief to 501(c)(6) nonprofit organizations in August.
“After Speaker Pelosi has spent months refusing to negotiate with Republicans on additional relief, I was honored to support today’s discharge petition that permits already-appropriated funds to support our 501(c)(6) organizations like local chambers of commerce,” Steube said. “With strong support for expanding eligibility for the Paycheck Protection Program to local chambers of commerce and nonprofits, it is sad that Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats are refusing to help these organizations that play critical roles in our small business communities.”
The Small Business Administration (SBA) stopped accepting applications for the Paycheck Protection Program on August 8, 2020. This left over $130 billion in funds undistributed. In addition to expanding eligibility for the Paycheck Protection Program, this legislation also seeks to expand Paycheck Protection Program funds’ availability to December 31, 2020.
