Steube Reintroduces Legislation to Expand Health Insurance Options for Veterans

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) reintroduced the Veterans’ True Choice Act in the 117th Congress. This legislation would expand health insurance options for disabled veterans and enable service-connected veterans the ability to use TRICARE Select and TRICARE for Life.

“Though we will never be able to fully repay our nation’s veterans, providing them with access to quality health care is a good place to start,” Steube said. “The Veterans’ True Choice Act can deliver on this by offering new choices for our heroes to select local providers when necessary, and by preventing our veterans from being forced to travel hundreds of miles or wait for months to receive the care they deserve.”

This legislation would amend title 10 of the United States Code to provide eligibility for TRICARE Select to veterans with service-connected disabilities. Specifically, this legislation would allow veterans to use local providers if a local Veterans Affairs (VA) facility does not offer the necessary services. Through this, veterans could go to the providers they choose for the health care they need and deserve without having to wait for 30-60 days to receive care.

Steube previously introduced this legislation in the 116th Congress.

Steube’s district is home to over 75,000 veterans, and there are over 1.5 million veterans residing in the State of Florida.
