Steube Reintroduces Legislation to Prevent CCP Intellectual Property Theft by Reforming Student Visa Application Process
WASHINGTON, D.C.— U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) today reintroduced the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Visa Disclosure Act in the 117th Congress. This legislation would require aliens applying for certain United States visas to disclose if they receive funds from the Government of the People’s Republic of China or the Chinese Communist Party.
“As part of their ongoing efforts to spy on Americans, the Chinese Communist Party has been manipulating our student visa system to infiltrate our universities and steal our data,” Steube said. “By closing this dangerous loophole in our immigration system, this legislation will thwart the CCP’s dire threats to our intellectual property, personal information and national security.”
Steube introduced this legislation in the 116th Congress as part of a greater push from the Republican Study Committee (RSC) and its membership to hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable for their long list of crimes towards the United States, including violating intellectual property laws.
Last year, many reports suggested that the Chinese Communist Party encourages citizens to take advantage of certain immigration visas to spy on the United States and engage in intellectual property theft. There were also reports that the Chinese Communist Party was using the App TikTok to collect data and personal information from U.S. Citizens.
This legislation was introduced with U.S. Representatives Debbie Lesko (R-Ariz.), Troy Balderson (R-Ohio), Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.), Chip Roy (R-Texas), Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.), Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.), Ralph Norman (R-S.C.), and Scott Perry (R-Pa.).
