Rep. Greg Steube Reintroduces Legislation to Protect Taxpayers, Hold Woke Organizations Accountable & Improve Government Efficiency

WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) today reintroduced eight bills in the 118th Congress to protect taxpayers, hold woke organizations accountable, and improve government efficiency. The bills are within jurisdiction of the Ways and Means Committee, Committee on Oversight and Reform, Judiciary Committee, and Committee on Energy and Commerce.

“The Republican majority in the 118th Congress is working to make our government accountable to the people,” said Rep. Steube. “I am reintroducing eight bills that will remove special privileges for Big Tech and woke organizations, cut taxes for Americans and prevent their money from being spent on cruel dog testing, and hold our government accountable while improving efficiency!”

Rep. Steube reintroduced the following legislation:

  • Protecting Dogs Subjected to Experiments Act will prohibit taxpayer funding of any biological, medical, or behavioral research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) that involves the use of a dog.
  • PRO Sports Act will close the loophole that allows professional sports organizations to claim nonprofit status and tax breaks. The legislation prohibits any organization from being tax-exempt if it is a professional sports league, organization, or association, a substantial activity meant to foster national or international professional sports competitions and has annual gross receipts in excess of $10 million.
  • Make Marriage Great Again Act will strengthen American families by amending the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to eliminate the Marriage Tax Penalty.
  • Marijuana 1-to-3 Act will reschedule marijuana from a schedule I controlled substance to a schedule III controlled substance, allowing researchers to access federal funds to determine its medical value.
  • Copyright Clause Restoration Act will strip Disney of its special copyright protections. The bill would limit new copyright protections to 56 years and make the change retroactive for massive corporations like Disney that have been granted unnecessarily long copyright monopolies.
  • CASE-IT Act will amend Section 230 in an effort to promote free speech online, while protecting children from dangerous content. This legislation would make Section 230 immunity conditional for market-dominant Big Tech companies – in order to receive the special government protection, these platforms would be required to adhere to a First Amendment standard for their content moderation practices.
  • Moving H–2A to United States Department of Agriculture Act to move oversight of the H-2A visa program from the jurisdiction of the Department of Labor to the jurisdiction of the Department of Agriculture (USDA).
  • A bill to direct Federal departments and agencies to verify eligibility for Federal benefits for individuals 95 years of age or older.

Florida’s newly redistricted 17th Congressional District now covers all of Sarasota and Charlotte counties as well as portions of Lee County. View Rep. Steube’s biography here.
