Congressman Steube’s life has been defined by service. Prior to being elected to Congress, Greg served for 2 years in the Florida Senate and 6 years in the Florida House. However, Greg’s commitment to public service began long before his involvement in politics. Immediately after graduating from the University of Florida with both undergraduate and law degrees, Greg answered the call to serve in the war on terror following the September 11th attacks. Greg enlisted in the U.S. Army while in law school. After graduating law school early to enlist, he reported to basic infantry training at Fort Benning, GA, then attended Officer Candidate School, then Infantry Officer Basic Course, graduating on the commandants list as an Infantry Officer. After sustaining an injury in Ranger school, he transferred to the US Army JAG Corps and served as the Chief of Detainee Operations for Multinational Division North in Iraq with the 25th Infantry Division in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2006-2007. After returning from deployment, he served as a JAG prosecuting courts-martials with the 8th Theater Sustainment Command within the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command area.
In Congress, he currently serves on the House Committee on Ways and Means and the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government. Through his Ways and Means committee assignment, Greg advocates for policies that support Florida’s small businesses, protect our farmers and ranchers, and put Americans First with fairer trade deals and aggressive oversight over the IRS and Washington bureaucrats. As a representative of one of the most elderly districts in the country, Greg is a voice for Florida’s Seniors at every step of the way. As a member of the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, Greg is working to investigate surveillance abuses from the Executive Branch on American citizens and the undermining of Americans’ civil liberties.
Greg supports conservative immigration policies, stands up for our nation’s heroes, and fights for faith-based values. He is also known as a leader in the agriculture community, recognizing the important balance between agriculture and water quality issues.
Greg is frequently interviewed in national and regional media. He frequently appears on Fox News Channel, Fox Business Network, Newsmax TV, One America News Network, NTD News, and News Nation. His legislation is regularly covered by The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The New York Times, POLITICO, The Hill, The Free Beacon, The Washington Times, and The Epoch Times. He often joins conservative thought leaders on nationally syndicated radio shows including The Sean Hannity Show, The Great America Show with Lou Dobbs, Breitbart Radio with Alex Marlow, Washington Watch with Tony Perkins, and The Glenn Beck Program.
The 17th District covers all of Sarasota County, Charlotte County, and portions of Lee County.
Greg lives in Sarasota with his wife Jennifer, son Ethan and their rescue dogs, Luke, Leia, Chance, and Matty.
