Rep. Greg Steube Appointed to House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence
WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) today announced his appointment to serve on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence in the 119th Congress. The committee plays a critical role in overseeing the nation’s intelligence agencies and investigating abuses of power that threaten Americans’ civil liberties and national security.
“In the twenty-plus years following the September 11th terrorist attacks, the rules by which our intelligence community operates have dangerously veered away from collecting intelligence on our adversaries, such as what I witnessed in Iraq, to now include unconstitutional surveillance on American citizens, including associates of President Trump and members of Congress,” said Rep. Steube. “Americans have witnessed our intelligence agencies overstep their bounds—surveilling citizens without cause, manipulating information to protect political elites, and enabling censorship of dissenting voices. The weaponization of our federal government and intelligence community is a dangerous reality that was exacerbated by officials in both the Obama and Biden Administrations.”
Rep. Steube continued, “It’s time to restore accountability and transparency, and ensure these agencies work for the people—not against them. I am honored to serve on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence under the leadership of Chairman Crawford. We must always put America first, which also means putting Americans’ constitutional rights first. President Trump won his hard-fought campaign on this exact ideal – and it is our duty to give him everything he needs to fulfill his promises and duties to the American people.”
The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence is tasked with overseeing the intelligence community, including agencies such as the CIA, NSA, and FBI. In the 119th Congress, the committee will focus on addressing surveillance abuses, protecting Americans’ privacy, and ensuring the intelligence apparatus operates within its constitutional limits.
Rep. Steube will retain his membership on The House Committee on Ways and Means during the 119th Congress.
