Rep. Steube Recognizes Sergeant Darrell Seckendorf as May FL-17 MVP

SARASOTA, Fla. — Today, U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) recognized Sergeant Darrell Seckendorf of the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office as the May FL-17 MVP. Sgt. Seckendorf is known for his leadership, courage and professionalism as a law enforcement officer and he has selflessly dedicated his time and resources to the community.

“We are grateful for the dedication Sgt. Seckendorf has shown to Sarasota County. Through his many roles in law enforcement, Sgt. Seckendorf has exemplified the highest standards of service,” said Congressman Steube. “Countless individuals and families have been impacted by his service, and I look forward to seeing all the good that will come from his influence in the future.”

Sgt. Seckendorf joined the Sarasota County sheriff’s office in 1998 and currently serves as one of two Traffic Unit supervisors and also oversees both the agency’s Honor Guard and Emergency Response Team (ERT). Throughout the year, Sgt. Seckendorf coordinated the participation of both the Honor Guard and Traffic Unit in many events locally and across the state, including charitable competitions, holiday celebrations, memorial ceremonies, and funeral services for several current and former members of law enforcement. Most notably in October, following the passing of Deputy Joshua Welge in the line of duty, Seckendorf led the Honor Guard in preparing memorial services with full honors for the first time in the agency’s history.

In March, Sarasota County Sheriff Kurt Hoffman named Sgt. Seckendorf the 2021 Law Enforcement Deputy of the Year.

Rep. Steube presented Sgt. Seckendorf with a certificate and flag flown over the U.S. Capitol in his honor.

Each month, Rep. Steube and his team recognize an MVP from the 17th Congressional District who has made outstanding and unique contributions to the community. The purpose of this award is to recognize the unsung heroes across the District as they display extraordinary dedication to making a difference. MVPs are presented with a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol to thank them for their work and are publicly recognized in Rep. Steube’s weekly newsletter.
