Steube Demands Investigation into Swalwell’s Ties with Chinese Spy
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) joined colleagues in sending a letter to Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Christopher Wray, inquiring if the Bureau has made any efforts to investigate the relationship between Representative Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) and suspected Chinese spy Fang Fang, or Christine Fang.
“We know that the threat from Communist China is dire as they attempt to infiltrate our universities, intelligence communities, and even our highest levels of government,” Steube said. “At a minimum, we need to remove Eric Swalwell from the Intelligence Committee and demand a thorough and immediate investigation into his ties with Fang Fang. Anything less would be a threat to our national security and complete failure on behalf of the American people.”
Swalwell currently serves on the House Intelligence Committee, and despite House Republicans’ efforts, there have been no actions to suspend or remove him from the committee at this time.
Ties between Swalwell and Fang date back to 2012, and she has a history of fundraising for his campaign. There are even reports of Fang having an intern hired to Swalwell’s Congressional office after receiving her recommendation. The FBI alerted Swalwell of their investigation into Fang in 2015, shortly after she left the country.
Strengthening our national security and countering the threat from Communist China has been a top priority for Steube. Earlier this Congress, he introduced the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Visa Disclosure Act of 2020, which would require aliens applying for certain United States visas to disclose if they receive funds from the Government of the People’s Republic of China or the Chinese Communist Party.
