Steube Joins Efforts to Sue House Democrats Over Unconstitutional Proxy Voting

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) formally signed onto a lawsuit led by Republican Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) suing Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) over the constitutionality of the Democrat rule on proxy voting.

“House Democrats’ proxy voting scheme would allow Members of Congress to cast votes on behalf of American citizens from entirely different districts and states who never elected them for representation. We will not tolerate this unconstitutional attempt to upend 200 years of precedent and silence the voice of the American people,” Steube said.

The new rules brought on by House Democratic leadership overturned over 200 years of House precedent and allows Members to vote for other Members via proxy.

This lawsuit was filed in the D.C. District Court. Over 20 Republican House Members have signed onto this lawsuit so far. By signing onto this lawsuit, Steube and fellow Republican Members of Congress are committing to refrain from lending votes via proxy or placing votes via proxy on behalf of other Members.
