Steube Joins Parler and Calls for Section 230 Reform, Big Tech Accountability
WASHINGTON, D.C.— U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) released the following statement after launching a new Parler social media account:
“The American people have had enough of the selective editorializing and empty promises from Big Tech companies, like Twitter. While these platforms continue to hide behind Section 230 and abuse their immunities, Parler will be a welcomed change from Silicon Valley’s partisan operatives censoring our content.”
Earlier this year, Steube introduced the Curbing Abuse and Saving Expression In Technology Act (CASE-IT) Act. This legislation leaves the primary language of Section 230 intact but distinguishes between “Big Tech” and “Small Tech” by employing a market dominance test. This legislation still protects Section 230 immunity for innovators, market disruptors, and users — but leaves no room for Big Tech abuse.
Steube also joined U.S. Representative Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and other Republican colleagues in releasing a report on Big Tech and modern conservative censorship. The report found that Big Tech companies like Twitter have been undeniably targeting conservative content on social media platforms and search engines while allowing other violent, anti-American content to go largely unchecked.
Steube follows many representatives such as U.S. Representative Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) who joined Parler as an alternative to biased social media platforms such as Twitter or Facebook.
