Steube Provision to Rename Bridge After Fallen Officer Julian Keen Included in Water Resources Development Act of 2020
WASHINGTON, D.C.— U.S. Representative Greg Steube released the following statement after his provision to rename the Moore Haven Lock and Dam in Florida after fallen Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) Officer Julian Keen, Jr:
“Renaming this bridge is only a small gesture of our gratitude to Officer Keen and his loved ones for their sacrifices to protect our community. We will always remember his legacy and cherish his relentless efforts to build bridges and serve all those in our community as we cross the Moore Haven Lock and Dam.”
Officer Keen was shot and killed in LaBelle, Florida after attempting to stop a hit-and-run suspect while off-duty. Officer Keen served over six years with FWC and was highly respected in his community. The Moore Haven Lock and Dam will now be called the “Julian Keen, Jr. Lock and Dam” in his memory.
Prior to the consideration of the Water Resources and Development Act (WRDA) of 2020 Steube sent a letter along with U.S. Representative Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.) to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure requesting this language to be included in the final version of the bill.
