Steube Stands Up To China and Puts America First
WASHINGTON, D.C.— U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) today cosponsored H.R. 6399, the Securing America’s Vaccines for Emergencies (SAVE) Act, which will protect America’s medical supply chain and secure future emergency vaccines. This legislation gives the President the authority to increase the funding and security of our medical supply chain by amending the Defense Production Act of 1950 to ensure the availability of medical supplies considered essential to national defense.
“The COVID-19 crisis has highlighted the fact that so many critical products and aspects of America’s medical supply chain are controlled by shady foreign governments, like Communist China,” said Steube. “In times of national emergency, we must be able to rely on our own country to provide necessary supplies to keep our citizens safe. This legislation empowers American manufacturing and puts America first.”
When the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the United States, many disturbing reports of hospitals relying on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) purchased from China emerged. This legislation guarantees that the President has the power to create a national stockpile of reliable and certified medical supplies such as PPE equipment and vaccines to protect American citizens.
Steube has been a leader against China since the COVID-19 pandemic emerged, having filed H.R. 6405, the Chinese Government COVID-19 Accountability Act to hold Communist China fiscally responsible for the economic impact of COVID-19, as well as H.Res 919, which condemns China’s appointment to the United Nations’ Human Rights Council.
