U.S. Rep Greg Steube Introduced Three Amendments to the Department of State Appropriations Act to Keep Taxpayer Dollars Out of the Hands of Terror Groups, Anti-America Organization
WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) introduced three amendments to H.R. 4665, The Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act of 2024 to keep U.S taxpayer dollars out of the hands of terror groups and the corrupt, anti-America organization, UNESCO.
“UNESCO is a mismanaged organization and has a long history of anti-United States bias, anti-Israel bias, and has honored countries that consistently violate human rights. Why should we give Americans’ taxpayer dollars to organizations that hate America?” said Rep. Steube.
“We cannot give taxpayer dollars to the Lebanese Armed Forces or the country of Iraq while being unable to safeguard those dollars from exploitation by Hezbollah, Iran, ISIS, and other terror groups. It’s unacceptable to appropriate American dollars for these purposes with the likelihood that some of the money could fall into the hands of terrorists,” said Rep. Steube.
Amendments introduced by Rep. Steube:
- Ensures none of the funds made available by this Act may be used to provide assistance to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
- Ensures none of the funds made available by this Act may be made available for Lebanese Armed Forces.
- Ensures none of the funds made available by this Act may be used to provide assistance to Iraq.
Additionally, H.R. 4665 includes a portion of Rep. Steube’s bipartisan legislation, The COI Elimination Act which would, in part, restrict U.S. funding to the United Nations International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel. H.R. 4665 states: “None of the funds appropriated by this Act or prior Acts making appropriations for the Department of State, foreign operations, and related programs may be made available for the United Nations International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel.”
“The ongoing anti-Israel commission formed by the UN’s discredited Human Rights Council directly obstructs peace in the Middle East and intentionally targets the only democracy in the region. Our U.S. tax dollars have no place funding an anti-Israel commission,” said Rep. Steube.
