U.S. Rep. Greg Steube Reintroduces his Landmark Legislation to Protect Women’s Sports
56 House Republicans Back Legislation Standing for ‘truth, safety, and reality’
WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.), joined by 56 original Republican cosponsors, today reintroduced The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. This legislation allows women and girls a fair playing field in competitive sports by ensuring that school athletics comply with the Title IX recognition of a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.
“The radical left is not in step with the American people on the issue of protecting women’s sports,” said Rep. Steube. “Americans have loudly spoken that they do not want men stealing sports records from women, entering their daughters’ locker rooms, replacing female athletes on teams, and taking their daughters’ scholarship opportunities. My legislation stands for truth, safety, and reality: men have no place in women’s sports. Republicans have promised to protect women’s sports, and under President Trump’s leadership, we will fulfill this promise.”
This bill ensures that biological females compete against other biological females in women’s sports that are operated, sponsored, or facilitated by a recipient of federal funding.
President Trump has vowed to keep men out of women’s sports and has said that “under the Trump administration, it will be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders — male and female.”
House Republicans proposed Rep. Steube’s bill as part of the 119th Congress rules package.
“Title IX was created to give women and girls equal access to education and sports. Unfortunately, the intent of Title IX is under direct assault from the radical left. Allowing biological males to compete against women jeopardizes competition and fair play, both critical tenets of sports. Rep. Steube’s Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2025 will help stop attempts to include biological males in girls’ and women’s sports, ensuring fairness and a level playing field,” said Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI).

Background
Rep. Steube has led the fight to champion women’s sports for years in Congress.
In the 118th Congress, the Republican Conference listed the defense of women’s sports in the Commitment to America and passed Rep. Steube’s bill in the first 100 days of the Republican Majority by a vote of 219-203, without a single Democrat voting in favor. The Senate companion, introduced by U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) was never brought to the floor under the Democrat Senate Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer.
In the 117th Congress, Rep. Steube and former Republican Study Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.) filed a discharge petition for The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act where it received 187 signatures.
