SARASOTA, Fla. – U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) today announced the nomination of seventeen students in Florida’s 17th Congressional District to the U.S. Service Academies:
“Parents have had enough. Schools have no place indoctrinating our children about gender identity, sexual orientation, and transgenderism,” said Steube. “It should have never started in the first place, but since these teachings are becoming increasingly prevalent in schools across America, I’m glad to cosponsor legislation that will withhold federal funds from any school who tries to override parental rights by teaching these topics without permission.”
“It is a true honor to nominate 18 highly talented young Americans to attend our nation’s service academies. Our community would be lucky to have any of these students representing us in service of our country.”
“My office is excited to announce that we are seeking interns for our Washington, D.C. office. One of my greatest honors in Congress is to provide opportunities for bright young students to learn and serve our country. I am looking forward to inviting a new class of interns to serve our district in Washington, D.C.”
“Our country’s small businesses faced unprecedented challenges during COVID-19 and are still recovering. Other FDA user fees have small business provisions, and this legislation would bring this fee in line with other FDA user fee programs to ensure small businesses aren’t excessively burdened.”
“It is well documented that the Chinese Communist Party sees our higher education institutions as an opportunity for espionage and a place to spread their communist propaganda, even going beyond Confucius Institutes and reaching university professors. While Florida is taking promising steps to curb this national security threat, Congress and the Biden Administration need to take decisive action to send a message to China that their communist mission is not welcome or acceptable in our education system.”
“With nearly a fifth of Florida’s human trafficking victims being children, we need to empower our educators and administrators to understand the signs and protect our students. The safety of our children is a top priority in our education system and this legislation will protect precious lives by giving vulnerable children the support systems they need.”
“When I joined the Army after the attacks on September 11, 2001, I had significant student loan debt from law school, which took me over 15 years to pay off. During my time in the military, I served with many others who had previously received an education and took out loans to pay for it. For generations, the GI Bill has offered a pathway to education for our nation’s veterans, but as a new generation of men and women answer the call to service, this bill needs to be modernized to meet their educational and financial needs, which often include student loans. Servicemembers, like myself, who joined after they obtained their education, cannot take advantage of the GI Bill, so we should give those veterans the same amount of credit toward the student loans they incurred prior to their military service.”
