Veterans

As a veteran who served in the Army and deployed to Iraq, I am deeply committed to supporting America’s veterans. I’ve spearheaded Congressional reform efforts to provide veterans with health care choices outside of the VA system through my landmark legislation, The Veterans’ True Choice Act. I’ve also led on VA oversight issues in Congress, such as authoring a House-passed amendment to prevent VA employees from working on healthcare claims for illegal immigrants in ICE custody. I’m committed to crafting policies that ensure the VA works for our veterans, not against them. My office actively participates in the Library of Congress Veterans History Project Series, where we document the stories of FL-17’s veteran population for historical preservation. House Passes Steube Amendment with Bipartisan Support to Prohibit ICE from Paying the VA to Process Illegal Migrants’ Medical Claims

WASHINGTON – The U.S. House of Representatives voted decisively in favor of an amendment introduced by U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.). Amendment No. 57 to H.R. 8752 Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act of 2025 prohibits Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) funds from being used to compensate the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for processing medical claims for illegal immigrants in ICE custody. The final vote was 235-176, including 27 members of the Democrat party voting in favor.

U.S. House Approves Steube Amendment to Prohibit the VA from Using Resources on Illegal Immigrants

WASHINGTON — The U.S. House of Representatives today approved U.S. Representative Greg Steube’s amendment to H.R. 8580, Military Construction and Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. The amendment prohibits the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) from using any funds from this act to process medical claims for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Health Service Corps at the Department of Homeland Security.
