House passes bill to bar transgender athletes from sports

Roll Call – House Republicans passed a bill Thursday that would bar transgender women and girls from playing on athletic teams that correspond with their gender identity, a key campaign promise that Democrats denounced as cruel and discriminatory. “For thousands of years in human history, we have recognized as a species that there are women and there are men who are obviously biologically different,” the measure’s chief sponsor, Rep. Greg Steube, R.-Fla., said during floor debate Wednesday. “Yet over the last several years there has been a perversion in our culture by the enemy, and the left completely embraced the lie to erase the lines of gender and to convince you … gender is fluid and can be whatever you want.”

Bill to Prohibit Chinese Citrus Imports Reintroduced

Citrus Industry – U.S. Rep. Greg Steube of Florida on April 6 reintroduced the U.S. Citrus Protection Act to prohibit the importation of commercially produced fresh citrus fruit originating from China.

“Floridians annually produce millions of cartons of citrus fruits, millions of gallons of citrus juices and hundreds of thousands of citrus byproducts, right here in the USA,” Steube said. “It’s unacceptable that we allow our adversary to import high pest-risk citrus, to the detriment of U.S. producers. My bill puts America’s farmers, growers and producers first by banning the importation of Chinese citrus.”

Biden Vows to Veto GOP Bills Rolling Back D.C. Police Reform, Protecting Sex-Segregated Sports

National Review – The second bill the White House opposes is H.R. 734, which will clarify Title IX to make it a violation for federally funded education programs or activities to operate, sponsor, or facilitate athletic programs or activities that allow individuals of the male sex to participate in programs or activities that are designated for women or girls.

“Last Spring, Sarasota’s own, Emma Weyant, was robbed of her NCAA Championship in the 500 Freestyle by a biological male, Lia Thomas. Floridians and Americans across the country are rightly outraged at what has become of women’s sports. We’ve seen time and time again how the far left only favors fairness when it aligns with their woke agenda. That’s why today, I’m pleased reintroduce legislation that ensures women and girls a fair playing field in competitive sports,” explained the bill’s sponsor, Representative Greg Steube (R., Fl.), in a February statement.
