SUN PORT CHARLOTTE — The aftermath of Hurricane Ian and the ensuing cleanup is something that will never be forgotten by anyone who lived in Southwest Florida — especially Lee, Charlotte. DeSoto and southern Sarasota counties. But, while most homeowners were able to pile their debris by the curb and, sooner or later, have it picked up by a hauler paid for by FEMA and the county, those who lived in mobile home parks found themselves in a jam. Because of FEMA rules, their was no program to pay for debris pick-up in mobile home parks.
WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) today introduced the Clean Up Disasters and Emergencies with Better Recovery and Immediate Support (DEBRIS) Act to make common interest communities, such as housing cooperatives, condominiums, and mobile homes that are a part of an association, eligible for the same assistance from FEMA as other homeowners.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) released the following statement on the first anniversary of Hurricane Ian’s landfall in Florida: “As we mark one year since Hurricane Ian devastated the Suncoast, my utmost priority remains working to ensure all Floridians are fully recovered. We’ve made substantial progress over the past year, and we’ve worked together to help our neighbors in need. My office has helped hundreds of Floridians with FEMA cases and SBA cases to get the help they are owed. But more work remains.

Sun Port Charlotte – .S. Rep. Greg Steube did his part to try to help the county recently. Steube, who represents all of Charlotte County along with Sarasota County and portions of Lee County, sent a letter to FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell. “Recovery from Ian and recovery from Idalia are inseparable in my district. There is great concern that Charlotte County does not have the adequate funds to recover from Idalia, due largely to having not yet received the appropriate FEMA money from Ian,” Steube said in a news release.
WASHINGTON — U.S. Representatives Greg Steube (R-Fla.) and Scott Franklin (R-Fla.) yesterday sent a letter to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Deanne Criswell advising FEMA of the unacceptable delay in FEMA obligating funds for DeSoto and Charlotte County School Districts as a result of the damage from Hurricane Ian that struck Florida in September of 2022.

The Floridian – “We are still getting reports of catastrophic damage in the part where the storm came through, but thankfully not as bad as Ian from the early reports.”
Additionally, he called it a “blessing” that Idalia stayed the course early forecasts predicted, allowing residents plenty of time to prepare.

Steube said he filed this bill during tax season because a CPA brought the issue to his attention.
