SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Rep. Greg Steube’s legislation, H.R. 5863, the Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act unanimously through the House Committee on Ways and Means.

CBS News – Kilolo Kijakazi, the acting commissioner, testified at a congressional hearing at which House members faulted the agency for issuing billions of dollars of payments in error and then, often much later, demanding that beneficiaries pay the money back. “Ordinary citizens are being punished for a government failure,” said Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.), citing a recent investigation by KFF Health News and Cox Media Group.

One year later, much remains to be done and it will likely take years to rebuild, all while ensuring our families are fully prepared to weather the next storm.

We’ve made substantial progress over the past year, and we’ve worked together to help our neighbors in need. My office has helped hundreds of Floridians with FEMA cases and SBA cases to get the help they are owed. But more work remains.

Bloomberg Tax – House Republicans and Democrats are pushing their colleagues to provide tax relief for Americans recovering from hurricanes, wildfires, and the Ohio train derailment, as some taxpayers run up against an Oct. 15 deadline. Lawmakers over the past year have introduced bills that would provide special tax treatment or allow exemptions relating to disaster aid and expenses incurred due to presidentially declared natural disasters

WASHINGTON —  U.S. Representatives Greg Steube (R-Fla.) and Kat Cammack (R-Fla.) yesterday introduced a fiscally conservative plan to make Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) available to 5 million lower-income Americans. 

BREITBART – Steube responded, “Yeah. You put 87,000 more IRS agents out there, and you’re going to — they’re going to be going after conservatives and it’s the weaponization of the DOJ. And, again, this is the same — the Democrats are the ones that made Trump’s tax returns public, and there wasn’t — he wasn’t involved in some type of criminal investigation for some type of tax fraud, where you have Hunter Biden, who has committed tax fraud. The IRS investigators will admit that. And there’s [money he owes] the federal government that we’ll never be able to recoup because a weaponized DOJ stalled for long enough so the statute of limitations would [expire], and they wouldn’t have to charge him for that crime.”

NBC 2 – In the midst of tax season, Florida Representative Greg Steube just introduced a new bill that would give those recovering from Hurricane Ian some much-needed tax relief. 

This would include the qualified disastrous parts of Southwest Florida for losses, big or small. 

“You deal with these disasters, and you don’t think about the tax implications of them,” Rep. Greg Steube said. 

Steube said he filed this bill during tax season because a CPA brought the issue to his attention.

WASHINGTON —  U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) today introduced legislation to provide income tax relief to Americans recovering from Hurricane Ian. The legislation designates Hurricane Ian as a qualified disaster for the purposes of determining tax treatment of certain disaster-related personal casualty losses.

Starting his third term in Congress, U.S. Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., will serve on one of the most prominent and powerful committees on Capitol Hill.

Last week, U.S. Rep. Jason Smith, R-Mo., the new chairman of the committee, named ten new Republicans to serve on it, including Steube.
