Education and Opportunity

Government's role is to encourage self-responsibility and bolster opportunity for all Americans. It's important that our children are taught these lessons at an early age. Florida parents know better than the federal government what strategies will help our students to learn and succeed. We support school choice, apprenticeship programs and innovative initiatives to give everyone a chance to pursue the American Dream.

“Our country’s small businesses faced unprecedented challenges during COVID-19 and are still recovering. Other FDA user fees have small business provisions, and this legislation would bring this fee in line with other FDA user fee programs to ensure small businesses aren’t excessively burdened.”

“It is well documented that the Chinese Communist Party sees our higher education institutions as an opportunity for espionage and a place to spread their communist propaganda, even going beyond Confucius Institutes and reaching university professors. While Florida is taking promising steps to curb this national security threat, Congress and the Biden Administration need to take decisive action to send a message to China that their communist mission is not welcome or acceptable in our education system.”

“With nearly a fifth of Florida’s human trafficking victims being children, we need to empower our educators and administrators to understand the signs and protect our students. The safety of our children is a top priority in our education system and this legislation will protect precious lives by giving vulnerable children the support systems they need.”
November 13, 2019 Press Release
“When I joined the Army after the attacks on September 11, 2001, I had significant student loan debt from law school, which took me over 15 years to pay off. During my time in the military, I served with many others who had previously received an education and took out loans to pay for it. For generations, the GI Bill has offered a pathway to education for our nation’s veterans, but as a new generation of men and women answer the call to service, this bill needs to be modernized to meet their educational and financial needs, which often include student loans. Servicemembers, like myself, who joined after they obtained their education, cannot take advantage of the GI Bill, so we should give those veterans the same amount of credit toward the student loans they incurred prior to their military service.”

“I’m offering this Amendment today to ensure that our daughters are provided an equal playing field in sports for generations to come, and that female athletes are not competing against male athletes for athletic scholarships and Title IX funding. As we debate this so called 'Equality Act,' I want to guarantee that biological women are not forced to compete against biological men at all levels of athletic competition."
