Rep. Steube Introduces SHIELD Act to Protect Parental Rights in Schools

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) today introduced the School Health and Instructional Environment Limits and Disclosure (SHIELD) Act, legislation requiring local educational agencies to notify parents before distributing or disseminating information about abortion or abortion-related services to students. The bill also prohibits abortion providers and their subsidiaries from distributing or disseminating such information to students on school grounds or through a school’s virtual platforms, including social media. The SHIELD Act is endorsed by Students for Life Action, a leading national organization fighting to protect the unborn and defend the right to life.

Rep. Steube Introduces Dollar-for-Dollar Deficit Reduction Act to Force Congress to Cut Spending Before Raising the Debt Limit

Reps. Steube, Thompson Introduce Bipartisan Legislation to Support Redevelopment of Former Military Installations

WASHINGTON–U.S. Representatives Greg Steube (R-Fla.) and Mike Thompson (D-Calif.) today introduced the Increasing Opportunity for Reindustrialization Act, bipartisan legislation that would help communities redevelop former military installations. The bill expands Qualified Opportunity Zone (QOZ) designation to include Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) sites. It allows states to nominate these areas for QOZ eligibility without counting them against the current cap on eligible Opportunity Zone tracts. The bill is carried in the Senate by Sens. Dave McCormick (R-Penn.) and Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii).

Rep. Steube Urges Army Corps of Engineers to Expedite Permit Application Review for Fort Myers Yacht Basin Redevelopment

WASHINGTON–Today, Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) sent a letter to Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Adam Telle urging the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to expeditiously review the permit application for the reconstruction of the City of Fort Myers Yacht Basin. The application was submitted in May 2024 following catastrophic damage from Hurricane Ian (2022), but the critical public waterfront facility remains shuttered. The letter requests a status update and a meeting with representatives of the Department of the Army, National Marine Fisheries Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the City of Fort Myers, and Suntex Marinas to identify any remaining issues necessary to completion.

Rep. Steube Joins Stop EU Overreach Act as a Co-Lead to Protect American Businesses from EU Regulatory Mandates

Jodey Arrington (R-Texas) to introduce the Stop EU Overreach Act, legislation that directs the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) to launch a Section 301 investigation into European Union (EU) sustainability mandates with extraterritorial reach that could impose more than $1 trillion in compliance costs on American businesses. The bill’s current cosponsors include Reps. Gus Bilirakis (R-Fla.), Randy Weber (R-Texas), Warren Davidson (R-Ohio), and Buddy Carter (R-Ga.). The Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council endorsed the legislation.
